Itinerary Day 1 Arrival/Beijing Upon your arrival at Beijing's airport, your local guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax, or explore the city. Day 2 Beijing Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Sites Visited: The Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven Special Cultural Experience: A Peking (Beijing) Opera Performance After having breakfast in your hotel, your guide will meet you and you will be driven to visit the incredible Forbidden City, home to China’s Emperors for over 500 years.
After lunch, you will be driven to the exquisite Summer Palace, where you will marvel at the opulence of this imperial summer getaway. You will then be drive to visit the magnificent Temple of Heaven, which was where China’s Emperors prayed to heaven. In the evening you will be mesmerized by a Peking (Beijing) Opera performance in Beijing’s famous Liyuan Theatre. Note:The opera will have English and French subtitles. Day 3 Beijing Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Sites Visited: The Great Wall (Mutianyu Section), the Sacred Road, the Ding Tomb Special Cultural Experience: Peking (Beijing) Duck Banquet After having breakfast in your hotel, your guide will meet you and you will be driven to visit the majestic Great Wall (Mutianyu Section). After lunch next to the Great Wall you will be driven to visit the Sacred Road, the road leading to the tombs of the Ming Dynasty's Emperor's tombs. You will then visit the Ding Tomb, the only excavated imperial Ming Dynasty Tomb. In the evening you will be taken to enjoy a Peking (Beijing) Duck Banquet at the oldest and most famous Peking (Beijing) Duck restaurant in China.
Day 4 Beijing/Xian Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Sites Visited: Hutongs, Xian's Ancient City Wall After having breakfast in your hotel, your guide will meet you and you will be taken on a rickshaw ride through the ancient lanes and alleyways of Beijing's Hutongs. After seeing how local Beijingers have been living for centuries, you will be driven to the airport for your flight to Xian, another of China's ancient capitols. Upon arriving in Xian, your local guide will meet you and take you for a bicycle ride along the top of Xian's Ancient City Wall to get a bird's eye view of this amazing ancient city. Note: If you do not feel like walking, an electric touring car will take you around the top of Xian's Ancient City Wall.
Day 5 Xian Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Sites Visited:The Terracotta Warriors, Small Wild Goose Pagoda Scenic Area Special Cultural Experience: Tang Dynasty Show with Jiaozi (Dumpling) Feast After having breakfast in your hotel, your guide will meet you and you will be driven to visit the incredible Terracotta Warriors. After lunch you will be driven to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda Scenic Area, where you will stroll through the gardenlike area around the pagoda. The area is filled with ancient stone carvings, beautiful landscaping, lakes and traditional Chinese bridges. In the evening you will be taken to an amazing Jiaozi (Dumpling) Feast followed by the Tang Dynasty Show, which bring the pageantry and music of the ancient Tang Dynasty to life. Day 6 Xian/Lhasa Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Sites Visited: Giant Stone Buddha After breakfast you will be free until your local guide meets you and escorts you to the airport for your flight to Lhasa. Upon your arrival at Lhasa's Gonggar Airport, your local guide will meet you and you will be driven to your hotel. On the way you will pass the Giant Stone Buddha carved into the side of a mountain. After checking into your hotel, you will be free to relax and adjust to the high altitude.
Day 7 Lhasa Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Sites Visited: Drepung Monastery, Tibet Museum, Norbulingka Park Special Cultural Experience: Traditional Tibetan Dinner In the morning after having breakfast in your hotel, your guide will meet you and you will be driven to the Drepung Monastery, the largest Buddhist Temple in the world. After lunch you will be driven to the Tibet Museum. In the museum you will explore the rich collection of Tibet artifacts which will showcase the colorful culture of Tibet. You will then be driven to Norbulingka Park, which was the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. In the evening you will experience the famous hospitality of the Tibetan people as you have dinner in a local family's home.
Day 8 Lhasa Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Sites Visited: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street In the morning after having breakfast in your hotel, your guide will meet you and you will be driven to the StunningTang Dynasty Show. This gigantic complex, which was the political and religious center of Tibet, rests on a hill and overlooks the city of Lhasa. You will then be driven to Jokhang Temple, one of the most important and beautiful Buddhist Temples in Tibet. After visiting the temple you will walk along Barkhor Street which is a circular street surrounding the Jokhang Temple. On Barkhor Streets you will mingle with Buddhist pilgrims, locals, and merchants. Day 9 Lhasa/Chengdu Meals: Breakfast, Lunch You will be free on this day until your guide meets you and escorts you to the airport for your flight to Chengdu. Upon your arrival in Chengdu, your local guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax, or perhaps spend some time in one of Chengdu's many teahouses.
Day 10 Chengdu Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Sites Visited: Panda Breeding Research Base, Wenshu Temple, Wenshu Tea House, Jinli Old Street After having breakfast in your hotel, your guide will meet you and you will be driven to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where you will get a chance to see China's living treasures first hand. You will then visit the ancient Wenshu Temple and spend some time in its ancient tea house enjoying traditional Chinese tea and absorbing the local culture. After visiting the tea house you will be driven to the Jinli Old Street to mingle with the locals.
Day 11 Chengdu/Shanghai Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Sites Visited: The Bund, Nanjing Road Special Cultural Experience: Chinese Acrobatics In the morning after having breakfast in your hotel, your guide will meet you and you will be driven to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon your arrival in Shanghai, your local guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel. After lunch you will be driven to The Bund, known as a museum of Western architecture, and Nanjing Road, known as China's No.1 Shopping Street. In the evening you will experience edge of your seat excitement as you watch China's premiere acrobatic troupe in the Shanghai Centre Theatre.
Day 12 Shanghai/Departure Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Sites Visited: Yu Garden, Yuyuan Market In the morning after having breakfast in your hotel, your guide will meet you and you will be driven to the Yu Garden. This stunning example of traditional Chinese garden design is the only surviving ancient garden in Shanghai. You will then be taken to the neighboring Yuyuan Market. This is an extremely fun experience with its traditional architecture, fun shops, and performances. In the afternoon your local guide will escort you to the airport for your flight home.
