From the capital, Delhi we head to Agra and the majestic Taj Mahal. We explore some of Rajasthan's best loved and most colourful cities, plus some off the beaten path locales for a taste of rural life, colour and tradition. Highlights include Jaisalmer's living fort in the Thar Desert, a stay at a 17th century villa, and the idyllic lake setting of Udaipur. |
Days 1 - 2 Delhi Arrive in India’s colorful capital and transfer to your hotel, where you will meet your tour leader and fellow travelers. Visit Old Delhi’s buzzing streets, World Heritage listed Humayun’s Tomb and India Gate, and enjoy some free time for shopping and exploring lively Connaught Place. Days 3 - 5 Agra & Ranthambore National Park Head to Agra, where we visit the Red Fort, see craftsmen in action at a marble inlay workshop, and rise early to witness the breathtaking sight of the Taj at sunrise. Ranthambore, India’s most famous national park, is home to diverse wildlife and beautiful scenery. Spot deer, boar, crocodiles and – if you’re lucky – the elusive Bengal Tiger on dawn and dusk game drives. Days 6 - 8 Samode & Jaipur Travel to the traditional village of Samode where we stay in a royal garden turned luxury camp. An afternoon jeep safari affords us glimpses of women in colorful saris and turbaned farmers working their fields. Continue on to Jaipur where we explore the City Palace, the Palace of Winds and the Amber Fort. Jaipur is renowned for its handicrafts – we visit a local carpet making centre and enjoy free time for shopping. Days 9 - 10 Udaipur Fly to Udaipur, a magical white-washed outpost on the shores of Lake Pichola. Famous for its palace that appears to float in the middle of the lake’s peaceful waters, Udaipur is surely one of the world’s most romantic cities. Admire the ornate cupolas and balconies of the City Palace, explore the old city and soak up the dreamlike atmosphere with an afternoon boat ride. Days 11 - 13 Narlai & Rohet Garh From our base in a 17th century royal residence, take an evening walk to Elephant Hill and explore majestic Kumbhalgarh Fort. From Narlai head to Rohet Garh, a restored traditional residence managed by descendants of the original owners. Take a jeep safari to surrounding Bishnoi villages, enjoy a cooking class and free time to go horse riding or relax by the pool. Days 14 - 16 Jaisalmer & Osian We drive to Jaisalmer, India’s last living fort. Explore the tiny backstreets, ornate havelis and markets on a walking tour of this golden sandstone city. Enjoy free time for shopping or relaxing and before heading to a nearby deserted village for wonderful sunset views across the desert. The next day drive to Osian, where we stay in a stunning tented camp atop a high sand dune in the Thar Desert. Absorb the peaceful ambience on a sunset camel ride. Days 17 - 18 Jodhpur In the blue city of Jodhpur, we visit lively bazaars and the massive Meherangarh Fort, with its stunning views of the city below and its museum of Rajput treasures. Your journey ends with an airport transfer on day 18.
