- Private (Not Group) Tour Kunming • Dali • Lijang • Tiger Leapng Gorge • Zhongdian • Kunming On our 8-day Yunnan Explorer we take you beyod the main towns to remote villages, including one that is home to a Tibetan community in Zhongdian. We begin our journey in Kunming then fly to the ancient lakeside town of Dali. A spectacular drive takes you to magical Lijiang and Zhongdian, known as "Shangri-La". |
Days 1 - 2 Kunming & Dali Arrive in Kunming, the charming, modern capital of Yunnan and fly to Dali, an ancient town with a spectacular mountain backdrop on the shores of Erhai Lake. Visit the Three Pagodas, nearby Xizhou Village, and stroll through the Old Town. A chairlift ride is the perfect way to absorb the stunning views of the area. Days 3 - 4 Lijiang A quiet town of cobbled lanes, rushing canals and rustic stone and timber houses, Lijiang has an atmosphere like nowhere else in China. We climb Lion Hill for impressive views over town and visit the peaceful Yufeng Monastery. There is plenty of time to wander the market square, enjoy a traditional Naxi music performance, or try a special Yunnan rice pot in a local restaurant. Days 5 - 6 Zhongdian The road beyond Lijiang winds its way along the upper reaches of the Yangtze, bringing us to Tiger Leaping Gorge, claimed to be the world’s deepest. We continue on through spectacular scenery to Zhongdian, a fascinating town that is home to a large Tibetan community. Visit the 300 year old Songzanlin Monastery, perched on a hillside above town and experience Tibetan hospitality when we visit a local family. Days 7 - 8 Kunming Fly to Kunming, where we visit the fascinating Yunnan Museum and explore the crammed alleys of the Bird and Flower Market. Your journey ends with an airport transfer on day 8. Trip grading: MODERATE Suitable for travelers with an average level of fitness and independent mobility. Prepare for some long road journeys and high altitude in Zhongdian. What’s included: 7 nights hotel accommodation, flights as specified, all road transport by air-conditioned vehicles, all sightseeing as specified, entrance fees, Western tour leader based on a minimum of 7 travelers and local English-speaking guide throughout, arrival and departure transfers, and breakfast daily. Special touches: • Go beyond the towns of Lijiang and Dali to highly authentic surrounding villages, mountains and monasteries that are less frequented by tourists • Visit the fascinating town of Zhongdian with its large Tibetan community
