Days 1 - 3 Beijing Arrive in Beijing and transfer to your hotel. We walk through the incredible expanse of Tiananmen Square before continuing on foot to the splendid Forbidden City. Enjoy a traditional tea ceremony before heading into one of Beijing’s few remaining hutongs (backstreets) for lunch in a local home and a rickshaw ride. See the city’s famous Drum Tower, travel to the Great Wall at Mutianyu, enjoy a Peking duck dinner and explore the Wangfujing Night Markets. Days 4 - 5 Xian Visit the Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace before boarding an afternoon flight to Xian. Marvel at the Terracotta Warriors, wander the fascinating Muslim Quarter and perhaps Calligraphy Street, and visit the Big Goose Pagoda. We also indulge in a sumptuous dumpling banquet. Days 6 - 8 Yangtze River We fly to the city of Chongqing to begin our Yangtze cruise. Relax on board while viewing the ever changing scenery, shiny new cities and remnants of towns swallowed by the dam project, and the amazing Three Gorges. Enjoy an interesting side trip up Shennong Stream and a number of shore excursions, including a fascinating visit to the dam site. Days 9 - 12 Shanghai & Zhujiajiao Fly to Shanghai, one of the world’s most fascinating cities. Admire the Art Deco streetscapes of the Bund, visit the superb Shanghai Museum and peaceful Yu Garden. Discover the lively Chinese Quarter, see the famed Shanghai acrobats and visit the ancient water town of Zhujiajiao. Your journey ends with an airport transfer on day 12. Trip grading: EASY to MODERATE Suitable for travelers with an average level of fitness and mobility. Fly between major destinations. Boarding of small and large boats required. What's included: 8 nights hotel accommodation and 3 nights cruise ship accommodation, flights as specified, all road transport by air-conditioned vehicles, all sightseeing as specified, entrance fees, Western tour leader based on a minimum of 7 travelers, local English-speaking guides throughout, arrival and departure transfers, breakfast daily, 4 lunches, 2 dinners.
