Days 1 - 3 Beijing Arrive in Beijing and transfer to your hotel. We walk through the incredible expanse of Tiananmen Square before continuing on foot to the splendid Forbidden City. Enjoy a traditional tea ceremony before heading into one of Beijing’s few remaining hutongs (backstreets) for lunch in a local home and a rickshaw ride. See the city’s famous Drum Tower, travel to the Great Wall at Mutianyu, explore the Wangfujing Night Markets and try delicious Peking duck. Days 4 - 6 Overnight Train & Xian Visit the Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace before boarding our comfortable overnight train to Xian. Marvel at the Terracotta Warriors, wander through the fascinating Muslim Quarter and visit the Big Goose Pagoda. We also have the chance to indulge in a sumptuous dumpling banquet. Days 7 - 10 Shanghai & Zhujiajiao Fly to Shanghai, one of the world’s most fascinating cities. Admire the Art Deco streetscapes of the Bund, visit the superb Shanghai Museum and peaceful Yu Garden. Discover the lively Chinese Quarter, see the famed Shanghai acrobats and learn all about the art of feng shui at an educational lecture. We also visit the ancient water town of Zhujiajiao. Your journey ends with an airport transfer on day 10. Trip grading: EASY Suitable for travelers with an average level of fitness and independent mobility. Fly between major destinations, plus one overnight train journey. What's included: 8 nights hotel accommodation, flights as specified, all road transport by air-conditioned vehicles, one overnight train journey in a soft sleeper cabin, all sightseeing as specified, entrance fees, Western tour leader based on a minimum of 7 travelers and local English-speaking guides throughout, arrival and departure transfers, breakfast daily and 1 lunch.
